READY FOR MORE ACTION AT LAKE MATEOS
Lake Mateos continues to shine as the brightest spot for fast bass action in Mexico. Although it doesn’t produce as many double-digit lunkers as El Salto, the 55,000-acre lake on the secluded Humaya River a little more than two hours from Lake El Salto can produce largemouths exceeding 14 pounds with quite a few breaking the 10-pound mark.
Rapidly gaining a reputation as the best topwater lake in Mexico, Lake Mateos consistently delivers 100- to 150-fish days with many fish in the 2- to 9-pound range since it receives so little pressure. Such consistent action and its scenic setting make it the perfect place for friends, families and corporate groups to enjoy quality time.
“El Salto is good, but Lake Mateos is great!” exclaimed George McWaters who visited in March 2009. “Those Mateos fish flat out crushed our baits! Our spinnerbaits were being hammered so hard some of them broke apart. We didn’t break 10 pounds this trip but we had several fish that were close.”
Last season opened with high water after a hurricane hit the area, but we finished the season in great shape. Barring any major storms, this season should produce even better catches as the average size of the fish we catch continues to grow. Some of our junior anglers participating in the Summer Camp even caught fish exceeding10 pounds! See the Video!!
Our newest lodge, Anglers Inn Mateos incorporates all of the special personal touches and attention to detail that world-traveling anglers come to expect from a Billy Chapman, Jr. operation, all in a lush tropical setting. Guests stay in private, chalet-style cottages -- each decorated in a traditional Mexican motif complete with stone showers, cathedral ceilings and tile roofs, plus all the modern conveniences such as satellite TV, DVD players, dual air conditioners and wireless internet service that people expect from a first-class lodge.
Also at Anglers Inn Mateos, guests find a fully stocked pro shop and fire pits where families can gather around to retell the tales of the day. Business executives who need to keep in touch with their clients can borrow laptops with e-mail and wireless internet service.
Overlooking the Humaya River, the lodge offers one of the most picturesque views in Mexico. Depending on conditions, guests can float the river or cool off by taking a dip. After swimming, guests may enjoy riverside dining as they sample another culinary masterpiece from Chef Delfino. With 25 years behind the stove, his dishes are beyond compare.
Guests who stayed at Anglers Inn El Salto will also recognize some familiar faces. When we opened the new lodge at Lake Mateos, we transferred some of our best people from Lake El Salto so that our guests will always enjoy the same courteous and professional service that they’ve come to expect from Anglers Inn International. There’s the famous Ramón with his charm and attention to detail, Joel with his unique laugh and Julio with his operations experience waiting to cater to your every need.Here’s what one guest had to say:}
